How the gallons helper works

Everything on this worksheet is a field you fill — except the optional gallons helper. Enter the pool's length, width (or diameter for a round pool), and the shallow and deep depths, then press Compute gallons. It estimates the volume from the average depth and a rule-of-thumb multiplier: 

avgDepth = (shallow + deep) / 2          (feet)

rectangular:  gallons = L × W × avgDepth × 7.5
round:        gallons = diameter² × avgDepth × 5.9
oval:         gallons = L × W × avgDepth × 6.7

The multiplier is a visible, editable rule of thumb (rect 7.5, round 5.9, oval 6.7 gallons per cubic foot of average depth). It varies with the true average depth and with irregular shapes, so adjust it as needed. Freeform and other irregular shapes turn the helper off, because there is no defensible rule of thumb for them.

The helper only suggests into the volume field — a known or metered value you type always wins, and that typed value is what the worksheet prints. The figure is a planning estimate, not an authoritative volume. Nothing you enter on this worksheet is stored; it is built and kept in your browser for this one session.
