Air Duct Cleaning Pricing Calculator

Price an air duct cleaning job from your own numbers: per vent rates, a per-system charge, job minimum, sanitizing, dryer vent and access add-ons, and travel.

Vent counts and rates

Outlet vents that deliver conditioned air into rooms.

Your starting price per supply vent. An operator-entered starting point.

Intake vents that pull room air back to the air handler.

Returns may take longer to access and clean depending on the installation. Price them separately.

System charges

Each system with its own trunk line and plenum.

Flat charge for main trunk and plenum work per system.

A floor the job price never falls below. Leave empty for no minimum.

Add-ons

Applied after the mechanical clean. Kept as a separate line so the base cleaning margin is visible.

While the crew is already on site.

Crawlspace, attic, high-rise, or otherwise hard-to-reach ductwork.

Travel

Flat travel fee or mileage charge for the visit.

Tax and margin check

Sales tax, VAT, or GST if applicable. Use your own registered rate.

Loaded crew cost, wage plus burden. Fill it in with estimated hours and the result shows margin.

Brushes, whips, covers, bags, anything the job consumes.

How this is calculated

The quote is a straight build-up from vent counts, a system charge, add-ons, travel, and a job minimum.

supplyRev   = supplyVents x perSupplyRate
returnRev   = returnVents x perReturnRate
systemRev   = systems x perSystemRate
addOns      = sanitizing + dryerVent + accessSurcharge
subtotal    = supplyRev + returnRev + systemRev + addOns + travel
jobExTax    = max(subtotal, jobMinimum)
tax         = jobExTax x taxRate
cost        = costPerHour x estimatedHours + materialsCost
margin      = (jobExTax - cost) / jobExTax

No price presets anywhere. Every currency field starts empty. The vent counts start at zero, and HVAC systems starts at 1 as an editable starting point. The numbers you type are the ones that matter.

The margin check is all-or-nothing. Without a cost per crew-hour and estimated hours, the labor half of the cost is unknown, so the margin block does not appear. Supply it and the result shows direct cost, gross profit, and realized margin.

What this prices, and what it deliberately does not

An air duct cleaning job is priced differently from an HVAC repair. Where the HVAC job pricing calculator builds a time-and-materials or flat-rate repair quote, this tool builds a cleaning quote from vent counts, a per-system charge, and the add-ons that separate a profitable cleaning route from a loss leader.

The tool does not dose sanitizer, specify a cleaning method, or tell you what scope of work to perform. NADCA publishes the ACR standard (2025 edition) for the assessment, cleaning, and restoration of HVAC systems, but the standard itself is gated behind a download form and cannot be quoted here. What this page offers is the pricing structure: vent-by-vent, system-by-system, with every money field blank until you fill it.

Every money field starts empty on purpose

Search for an average duct cleaning price and you will find plenty of numbers. Follow the citations and they resolve to lead-generation directories quoting each other. Under this site’s cite-or-omit rule that means the tool ships with none of them. What it gives you instead is the shape of the quote, with every currency field blank until you fill it from your own job costing.

If you have not yet worked out what to put in the rate box, the HVAC service price list template is a good place to organize your service menu, and the trip charge and service call calculator handles the travel line on its own footing.

Sanitizing and dryer vent cleaning are separate lines for a reason

Sanitizing is commonly sold as an upsell after the mechanical clean, and dryer vent cleaning as an add-on while the crew is already on site. This calculator keeps them as distinct lines so the margin check can tell you what the base cleaning earns on its own and what each add-on contributes. Roll them into the base price if your market expects it, but price them separately first so you know what you are giving away.

Frequently asked questions

Why does this calculator not suggest an average duct cleaning price?
Because no primary source publishes one. The 'average air duct cleaning cost' figures circulating online trace back to lead-generation directories and affiliate blogs quoting each other, not to a regulator, a trade body, or a published survey. Under this site's cite-or-omit rule every money field starts empty and the tool supplies the structure instead: vent counts, a system charge, add-ons, travel, and a job minimum.
What counts as a supply vent versus a return vent?
A supply vent delivers conditioned air into the room. A return vent pulls room air back to the air handler. A typical layout has more supply vents than returns, which is why the two carry separate per-vent rates: returns can take longer to access and clean depending on the installation.
Should I charge for sanitizing separately or roll it into the base price?
That is your call. The calculator keeps sanitizing as a separate add-on line so you can see what the job earns with and without it. If your market expects it included, set the base rate higher and leave the sanitizing add-on at zero.
