Change Order Template

A change order amends an agreement you already signed: the work has grown (or shrunk), and you need the customer to approve the new price and timeline before you keep going. Fill the fields and the document updates live across five sections — Identification, Description of change, Cost adjustment, Schedule impact, and Approval. Every blank you leave falls back to a bracketed placeholder, so the document is usable before you've typed anything. The baseline a change departs from is the scope of work written into the original agreement, so quote the line you are amending rather than describing the change from memory.

The cost block is the load-bearing part. It shows three labeled lines so the arithmetic is visible and a credit reads correctly:

Revised Total = Original Contract Amount + Net Change

Net Change (fixed sum)        = the lump sum you type (may be negative = credit)
Net Change (time & materials) = labor hours × labor rate + materials

A negative net change is a credit/deduction — the revised total can legitimately fall below the original, and that is not an error. Switch the cost model to time & materials to enter hours, rate, and materials instead of one lump sum. Schedule impact is a signed number of calendar days (a negative value shortens the job).

The Change Order No. is free text you type, like CO-001 — it is never auto-generated, and nothing you enter is saved. The two signature lines are signed offline; once signed, the change order becomes part of the original agreement.
