Landscaping Material Takeoff List Template
Free landscaping takeoff template (Excel): turn measured beds, lawns, and patios into a material order list — mulch cu yd, sod pallets, paver base, plants, edging. Quantities only, no signup.
How the quantities are computed
Each measured item is one row; the Material picks the conversion. Bulk materials (mulch, topsoil, compost, stone) use the standard coverage formula — area times depth, divided by 324 — to get cubic yards, then a waste allowance and an optional bag count:
cu yd = area (sq ft) × depth (in) ÷ 324 ← 324 = 12 × 27
cu yd w/ waste = cu yd × (1 + waste% ÷ 100)
bags = ceil(cu yd w/ waste × bags-per-cu-yd) ← 13.5 (2 cu ft) / 9 (3 cu ft)
sod pallets = ceil(area × (1 + waste% ÷ 100) ÷ pallet coverage) ← default 500 sq ft
sod rolls = ceil(area × (1 + waste% ÷ 100) ÷ 10) ← a roll = 10 sq ft
paver base = area × base depth ÷ 324 ← base depth 5 in (4–6 in)
bedding sand = area × 1 ÷ 324 ← 1 in bedding
plants = count (pass-through, "each")
edging = round(length × (1 + waste% ÷ 100)) ← lin ft A 500 sq ft bed at 3 in is 4.63 cu yd ≈ 63 two-cubic-foot bags; a 5,000 sq ft sod area is 10 pallets at 500 sq ft each; an 800 sq ft paver patio needs about 12.35 cu yd of base aggregate plus 2.47 cu yd of bedding sand. Discrete order units (bags, pallets, rolls) round up — you cannot buy a fraction of a bag.
Coverage rates are standard estimates, not guarantees. Sod pallets vary by grower (450 / 500 / 600 sq ft) and stone is often sold by the ton with a density that varies by type — confirm coverage, depth, and waste with your supplier before ordering. This sheet is quantity-only and never prices anything; there is no cost, labor, or markup field. It is not an inventory ledger — it is a per-job order list computed from the measurements you enter.
