How this is calculated

The headline uses a verified rule of thumb: 8–12 BTU per cubic foot for a bed-bug heat treatment (PestPro Thermal), with the coefficient (k) set by the aggressiveness control. Concrete or forced-air rooms double the load (construction factor C = 2). Required watts are the BTU/hr figure divided by the constant 3.412 (1 W = 3.412 BTU/hr, learnmetrics). The heater count is the ceiling of required watts divided by your per-unit heater rating, with one spare suggested for even distribution.

The 8–12 BTU per cubic foot rule already includes the heat lost through walls and soaked into furniture and surfaces, so we do not add a separate air-heating load on top — that would over-size the job. The temperature rise (ΔT) is required and shown, but it is not multiplied in a second time: the coefficient already accounts for the cold-start work. Lean to the high end for a large rise.

Bed bugs die at about 113°F after ~90 minutes and about 118°F within ~20 minutes; eggs need about 118°F held a full ~90 minutes (PestPro). Professionals target 120–135°F throughout; we default to 130°F for margin against cold spots. This tool sizes the heat, it does not guarantee a kill.
