How this is calculated

The recommended price is built bottom-up from a per-spa cost stack, not divided down from a fleet total. Each routine-visit line is expanded to a monthly figure using a visits-per-month multiplier: weekly = 4.3 (52 / 12), bi-weekly = 2.15, monthly = 1.

chemicals       = chemCost/visit * visits/mo
onsiteLabor     = (minutes on site / 60) * loaded rate * visits/mo
driveLabor      = (drive minutes / 60)   * loaded rate * visits/mo
vehicle         = miles round-trip * $/mile * visits/mo
drainAndRefill  = (drainMin/60 * rate + waterCost) * drains/yr / 12
filterReplace   = (filterCost + filterMin/60 * rate) * replacements/yr / 12
overhead = flat $/spa OR % of price (closed form)
cost            = all lines summed
price = cost / (1 - target margin) (margin mode)
                = cost * (1 + target markup)         (markup mode)
displayPrice    = round(price / 5) * 5               (display only)

Drain-and-refill and filter replacement are periodic costs amortized to a monthly figure. A quarterly drain at $30 in labor and $10 in water adds $13.33/mo to the cost stack, not $40 in the month it happens. This keeps the monthly price stable and profitable across the full year.

When overhead is set as a % of price, price depends on overhead which depends on price. The calculator resolves it in one closed-form step (price = baseCost / ((1 - margin) - overhead%) in margin mode) rather than looping. If the overhead % is too high to leave room for the margin, no price can be set and the calculator says so.

The default costs are directional starting points, not market-sourced constants. Every input is editable; adjust them to your own numbers. For the actual dose arithmetic on each visit, use the spa and hot tub chemical dose calculator. For the pool-scale version of this same pricing exercise, the sibling rung is the pool service price calculator.

Formula: price = (baseCost + overhead) / (1 - target margin)
